The exhibition TANTANGAN III at Kunstraum m3 is part of a long-term and multisectional work and exhibition project by artists from Yogyakarta (Indonesia) and Berlin. It was initiated and organized by Noor Ibrahim / Yogyakarta and Clara Joris / Berlin.

In August 2019, the Berlin artists were invited by the Indonesian artists for a joint working residency over several weeks in Yogjakarta. Then all artists exhibited together at the Tahun Emas Artspace gallery in Bantul, Yogyakarta.The planned 2020 return visit of the Indonesian artists to Berlin could not take place due to the corona pandemic. Nevertheless, TANTANGAN should be continued by all means.

So finally now, two years later from 22 October – 28 October 22, the artists from Yogyakarta and from Berlin will show works in the KUNSTRAUM m3 that document the direct experiences from the encounter of different cultures.They reflect the impressions and experiences of the cultural exchange in Yogyakarta /Berlin and visualize them involving new materials, techniques and forms of communication. This challenging task for all participants is matched by the meaning of the Indonesian word TANTANGAN = CHALLENGE.
